Resthaven Port Elliot targeted
17 January 2012
Andrew Davies, Manager, Resthaven Building and Property Services, says, ‘The summer holidays have seen graffiti artists target the old Port Elliot Primary School building at 50 North Terrace. Last Monday (9 January), police and the Council advised me of an attack on the heritage listed building. Subsequently, on Wednesday, 11 January, Resthaven maintenance staff removed the graffiti at a cost of approximately $600.’
‘We are not aware of the extent to which other sites within Port Elliot may also have been affected, but in our case, this was a fairly minor and a spur of the moment incident, notwithstanding the fact that we are are very disappointed that this building has been a graffiti target. In our proposal for the development of a new Resthaven residential aged care facility on the site, we plan to upgrade the old school house to become a feature of the development.’
‘The original old school house building is to be retained for use as meeting and training rooms, supporting the facility and local community.’

‘Last July, representatives from Resthaven and the architects, Brown Falconer Group, held an information session at the Uniting Church Hall, Port Elliot to showcase the plans, which were then submitted to Council for Planning Approval.’
‘Prior to making an application for places, we conducted significant consultation and research into the needs of the region, and identified Port Elliot as an ideal location for future development to offer services for older people.’
‘We are committed to working and developing strong relationships with the local community and believe our development plans are have strongly community supported.’
‘Our proposal for Resthaven Port Elliot is a high quality residential aged care facility that will accommodate 94 older people. The Australian Government approved Commonwealth funding for 57 high level care and 35 low level care places. It is hoped that construction will commence mid 2012 and be completed by late 2013.’
