Community Services - FAQs

Marion Community ServicesClick on the links below to view questions and answers regarding Resthaven's Community Services.

If you have a question that is not listed in relation to our Community Services, please email: pr@resthaven.asn.au or visit our General FAQs or Residential FAQs pages for more questions and answers.

Will I be eligible for Community Services?

Generally, people aged sixty years and over are eligible for Resthaven's services, although some programs stipulate different age requirements. The level of need for community programs such as CACP or EACH is determined by an assessment undertaken by an independent Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). No assessment is required for some other community services.

To find your local Aged Care Assessment Team and for further information, contact the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222.

General Practitioner referral may be required for therapy services. Telephone appointments are necessary. For further information contact the Community Services in your area: 1300 136 633.

What fees are associated with Community Services?

Fees charged for community services are based on the Government subsidised fee policy as applied to each individual’s financial position. The manner in which this fee policy is applied is reasonable and consistent within Government guidelines.

In the community, Resthaven provides community aged care packages for eligible socially and financially disadvantaged people living in the eastern Adelaide metropolitan area and can also assist with housing support for eligible people in the north-eastern metropolitan area.

Community home-based assistance
Resthaven, local councils and other service providers have programs that assist people who live in their own homes and have low to moderate level needs. A simple telephone inquiry with the service will indicate what services are available and if you are eligible.

Some services require an assessment to determine individual care needs. Others may be specifically designed to assist people with particular needs, such as financial disadvantage and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Therapy services can assist people with maintaining wellness, rehabilitative therapy and self management of chronic conditions. A referral from your doctor or health professional is required. Assistance and advice about incontinence can be obtained by making an appointment at Resthaven continence clinics at Marion, Paradise and Elizabeth - no referral is required.

There may be a waiting time for some services. There is a fee for all services, however fees may be negotiated if you have financial hardship.

Visit Community Services on this site for further information.

For people who need more assistance, you, your family, the hospital or doctor needs to arrange what is called an ACAT assessment - this is the government's Aged Care Assessment Team. It comprises geriatricians, social workers and other health professionals who assess individual care needs at a particular level from 1 - 8, with 1 the highest. It is on the basis of this assessment that the level of care need is determined for both home based or residential aged care and/or respite.

  • Low dependency care needs are rated 5 - 8 and offer assistance with day to day living.
  • High care (1 - 4), may involve more intensive 24 hour nursing care.

Resthaven offers both low and high dependency aged care services in people's own homes and in residential care facilities. Following the ACAT assessment, inquiries can be made directly with the nearest Resthaven Community Services (telephone 1300 136 633, details also listed under the locations and contact page), or for residential care, directly to the Resthaven Admissions Officer (phone 8373 9123), who manages all new applicants across the organisation.

Respite for Carers
Short term residential respite is available for up to 63 days per person per year, often taken in blocks of about 2 weeks or more.

Community respite for carers is also available, either in the person's home, in groups and in centres. Refer to the Respite for Carers page for details.

Are there any vacancies?
Vacancies vary according to demand and location. There may be a waiting list for some services.

Contact the Coordinator of the preferred service directly to discuss the waiting list situation at that point in time. Resthaven's community services, residential services, respite for carers and specialised services are listed on the left side column of this page. For further information please visit our contact page or phone 1300 136 633.
