Training SessionProfessional Development
Provision of ongoing staff development is part of Resthaven’s commitment to quality service provision.  We have a Workforce Development Unit that offers a variety of training and special development programs such as Dementia and Continence management.

Resthaven has an orientation and induction program and an extensive training calendar that includes a range of clinical and non-clinical topics such as: Infection Control, dementia care, WHS, manual handling, fire safety, quality and computer skills.

Staff are encouraged to further their careers by undertaking courses at tertiary and other training institutions. The Professional Development Fund is available to assist with costs for approved courses.

Staff Development
A comprehensive staff development program ensures that staff remain up-to-date with contemporary aged care health issues and management and are competent in the daily operational tasks of their roles.

All Resthaven in-house training programs are competency based and we ensure external facilitators have programs in this format. Opportunities are provided for staff to attend external seminars to enhance knowledge and skills.

With an increasing number of residents and clients having a diagnosis of dementia, there is a paramount need for staff to have an understanding of dementia, its impact upon people and how to develop and implement individual plans of care. Resthaven employs a specialist Dementia Project Officer who provides training to staff and assists in the development of care strategies. An advanced dementia training program has been developed for all staff involved in the high care respite and Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia programs.
