    Work experience opportunities for students

Resthaven provides practical and meaningful work experience opportunities to students wishing to gain exposure to careers in the aged care sector.

We aim to offer suitable and positive opportunities for students within a supportive environment.

Student or work experience placements are arranged as part of a recognised program or course of study and may include:

    • Secondary school work experience programs, including community service programs (e.g. High School students over the age of 16).
    • Tertiary institutions work experience programs or compulsory work placement (e.g. University)
    • Registered Training Organisation work experience programs or compulsory work placement (e.g. TAFE)

The period of engagement varies based on requirements and could include vocational placements, work experience or familiarisation to aged care services.

I have completed my last placement (8 weeks) at Resthaven Port Elliot, and I am so grateful to have worked with wonderful staff in a supportive environment. It was one of the best placements I ever had. I will consider working for Resthaven one day. Thank you so much for having me.

Thank you so much for the hard work and time you put into organising the learning sessions and discussion for us during our placement. I personally really benefited from this — I just received my written assignment, and am happy I scored a high distinction!

I owe this to the encouragement, teaching, and abundant opportunities you, and all the encouraging staff, gave me while at Resthaven. I really appreciate it, and God bless you.

    Traineeships

Resthaven uses traineeships to help those with a passion for aged care and transferable skills enter the workforce. Focusing on right ‘fit’, we gradually build skills and experience to align with accredited training courses through a tailored on-boarding program and on-the-job learning.

Build confidence in providing care and services to older people whilst being introduced to work requirements through a gradual, supported process.

Positions supported are personal care assistant, and housekeeping services assistant in residential aged care homes, and home support worker roles in community services.

To be considered for a traineeship, simply apply for any of the above-listed positions, expressing your transferable skills relevant to the specific role.

My biggest challenge while studying is making ends meet financially. The scholarship covered my transport to go to school, paid my bills while undergoing placement, and paid for needed schoolbooks which I could not afford. I would like to express my warmest thank you to the donors who help fund my scholarship. I hope that in the near future, I can make a positive difference in the lives of our elderly.

This scholarship has given me the freedom and peace of mind to enjoy placements both locally and away, without having to stress about funding accommodation and food, as well as other necessities required for my future career and study. I will be forever thankful for your generosity.
