<description>Resthaven is pleased to sponsor Kate Swaffer’s 2012 Adelaide Fringe presentation, ‘My Unseen, Disappearing World’, through our community project called, ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Brilliant.’ Kate has early onset dementia and she tells it as it is, what it is like to have dementia. She acknowledges the devastation it is causing her brain and life, but she also talks of the positives she has gained by having dementia. Kate is a dynamic, passionate person and this is must see event. All proceeds are being donated to the ‘Big Issue’, a magazine that supports homeless people and dementia research. <description>Can you help with our Dementia project? A booklet is due to be published in early 2012. 
It contains stories that Resthaven has collated about people living with Dementia and their carers. Funded through a Dementia Community Support Grant from the Department of Health and Ageing, the project's facilitators are seeking feedback from people living with Dementia and their carers about issues discussed in the booklet.

<title>Scholarships make a difference</title>
<description>In June 2011, 11 UniSA students were presented with Resthaven's aged care scholarships. They are now a great deal further towards their goal of working in aged care. In recognition of Resthaven’s 75th anniversary, 29 scholarships were funded at three South Australian Universities, to encourage students to consider a career in aged care.

<title>Flinders University Disaster Research</title>

<description>In 2010, Resthaven’s Board approved a number of significant 75th Anniversary projects, including projects with lasting benefits for older Australians. Victoria Cornell was the successful applicant, and is undertaking a PhD under the supervision of internationally renowned expert, Dr Paul Arbon. The doctorate level research project aims to increase expertise and knowledge in best practice regarding managing disasters in the community, and how best to support older people.

<description>Resthaven's aged care services have recently extended into the south east, with the opening of a $20 million, 70 room residential aged care facility at 24 Elizabeth Street, Mount Gambier. This facility compliments Resthaven Limestone Coast Community Services which supports locals in the south east by offering day and overnight respite for carers, in-home care and support, extended aged care at home for the very frail aged, and support for veterans, including social support to keep older people in touch with friends and community groups.</description>
