    Sylvia encourages employee engagement

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Sylvia Powell to Resthaven, in the role of Executive Manager People and Culture. Sylvia commenced in August.

Sylvia’s most recent position was General Manager People and Culture for Eldercare, a position that she held since May 2016. Prior to that, she worked with the University of South Australia for ten years in a variety of leadership roles.

‘Resthaven is an organisation I have always admired,’ says Sylvia Powell, who recently commenced in the position of Resthaven Executive Manager People & Culture.

‘I was drawn to Resthaven because of its outstanding reputation in the sector, community, and South Australia.’

‘With a passion to continue my career in aged care, I saw a great opportunity to work alongside Darren Birbeck, the new Chief Executive Officer, and the whole Executive team, in writing the next chapter in Resthaven’s journey.

‘I admire the pride and genuine commitment of staff to Resthaven and our customers. The professionalism and courtesy of staff has been the most notable and warm welcome I have most appreciated.’

‘My aim is to further inspire, positively influence, and grow Resthaven’s workforce and continue to provide the highest level of quality services to our clients and their families.’

‘I hope to create a workplace culture where staff enjoy coming to work every day and promote Resthaven as a great place to work to their family and friends.’

Sylvia’s career spans more than 30 years, working in various Human Resources roles across the health, tertiary and aged care sector. During her ten years with the University of South Australia, Sylvia held various leadership roles, including the leadership and centralisation of the recruitment function.

‘Establishing an award-winning, dedicated recruitment team to successfully manage all aspects of a complex and busy recruitment function, was an achievement I am particularly proud of,’ Sylvia says.

‘I look forward to visiting Resthaven staff in residential, community and support services to demonstrate my gratitude for their amazing work and see how my role can support them further.’

Celebrating 85 years in 2020, Resthaven Incorporated is a not for profit, South Australian aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church. Resthaven’s residential and in-home care and support options are offered throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.
