Working in aged care gives Sam career opportunities

Sam Pratt, Resthaven Mount Gambier Care Coordinator, is one of the thousands of dedicated aged care employees who support older people across the Limestone Coast to live their best lives.

Sam, who started as a Personal Care Assistant with Resthaven Mount Gambier in 2014, completed her nursing studies at the University of South Australia Mount Gambier campus.

‘My work as a Personal Carer really gave me a passion for working with the elderly,’ says Sam.

Once she graduated as a Nurse, Sam was delighted to be offered a place in the Resthaven ‘Transition to Professional Practice Program’, which aims to support graduate nurses to gain the valuable experience required with ‘on the job’ training and study opportunities, and is run in conjunction with the University of South Australia.

‘She was chosen because she demonstrated a passion, commitment and genuine interest in caring for older people during her time as a Personal Carer,’ says Resthaven Mount Gambier Manager, Belle Kerr.

‘It is for these same reasons that Sam was soon promoted to the role of Clinical Nurse, and then, in 2018, to Care Coordinator.’

‘She now coordinates the care needs of residents, to ensure they are well supported in all their wellness goals.’

Sam says, ‘I find working within the residential aged care industry to be extremely rewarding.’

‘I am fortunate to provide care and support for residents and their families.’

‘I thank Resthaven for their continuing support in my aged care career.’
