‘Young at Art’ exhibition showcases artistic talent at Resthaven Port Elliot
Residents at Resthaven Port Elliot are putting their artistic talent on show this month as part of the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival.
Manager Residential Services, Louise Banner, says the idea for the exhibition came about when she noted the amazing artworks that residents had proudly completed and were displaying in their rooms.
‘There are some very talented artists here at Resthaven Port Elliot, with some beautiful pieces of art,’ Louise says. ‘From watercolour paintings to photographs, leadlight, needlework and more, the residents have an amazing range of work which they are excited to share with the community.’
Some of the artists who will exhibit their works include:
- Mrs Dorothy Pyne, who turned 100 at the end of June. She will be exhibiting her watercolour paintings, as well as some beautiful hand-illustrated greeting cards.
- Mr Jim Ramsbottom, photographer. Jim has carefully curated a small selection from his more than 5,500 images that capture the flora and fauna of Australia, as well as some international scenes.
- Mr Brian Harvey, 94. Brian will be exhibiting two leadlight artworks of birds – one a Gouldian finch and the other a Superb fairywren.
- Mrs Gwen Birbeck, a former craft shop owner. Gwen will be displaying some embroidery pieces, as well as ‘feathered’ paper art.
In total, almost 20 residents will have artwork on display for the SALA festival. The pieces will be on show in the main foyer and hallway of Resthaven Port Elliot for the month of August. The exhibition will be open Monday-Friday, from 10am-4pm.
Resthaven Port Elliot is located at 3 Frederik Street, Port Elliot, just off 50 North Terrace. Click here for more details about the exhibition.
