Beachside respite cottage now open in Victor!
‘I am excited to announce that Resthaven’s new respite cottage in Victor Harbor is now available for short term, overnight, individual and group stays for older people,’ says Manager, Cecelia Oxborrow.
‘Called “Newland House”, it’s cosy and home-like, and ready to offer social support and small group respite during the day, with activities, games, and delicious meals that cater for individual preferences.’
The new respite cottage at 1-3 Newland Street, Victor Harbor, is managed by Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills & Fleurieu Community Services, which also has a new office backing onto Newland House from Victoria Street.
‘We have been updating the new “respite cottage” and it is now ready to give family carers who look after an older person a break from their caring role.’
‘Respite stays allow people who care for an older person to take time to look after themselves, whilst knowing that their loved one is safe and supported by Resthaven’s exprienced staff.’
‘When someone is staying overnight, Resthaven staff are onsite 24/7 to offer individualised support.’
‘Carers are also welcome to stay over with their loved one, if they’d also like a break.’
‘We encourage people to come and see Newland House for themselves at our Open Day on Wednesday 14 September from 10am–2pm.’

Subsidised respite (daytime only) is available for carers of older people through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. Private and Home Care Package options are also available.
Newland House complements Resthaven’s suite of service offerings for older people across the Murraylands and Fleurieu, which include residential aged care services at Murray Bridge and Port Elliot, and Community Services at Murray Bridge, Port Elliot, Goolwa, Strathalbyn and now in Victor Harbor.
