Wellbeing program at Broadview Uniting Church

The Broadview Uniting Church has introduced a ‘connections’ wellbeing program for older people, thanks to a Uniting Church ‘Wellness and Ageing’ grant, sponsored by Resthaven.

The ‘Wellness and Ageing’ grants celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Uniting Church in 2017. The grants are being managed by the Uniting Church Synod.

Participants can also do some shopping at the on-site op shop, and those with ‘green thumbs’ can volunteer in the garden.

Broadview Uniting Church Minister, Rev Ruthmary Bond, says, ‘With many churches in the area closing down, there has been a reduction of community programs for seniors. We want to bring some of that connection back!’

“‘Connections’ is a place where people can have fun, enjoy being out, being with others, and a cuppa. This is a place where loneliness takes a back seat and wellbeing can shine.’

In October 2017, Resthaven announced the $250,000 donation to the Uniting Church to sponsor the 40th Anniversary Wellness and Ageing grants. The grants were open to all Uniting Church congregations, faith communities and mission networks for projects demonstrating benefits to older people, positive ageing, community benefit, and/or links to existing programs within the Uniting Church, Resthaven or the wider community.

Resthaven Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hearn, says, ‘We wanted to honour the Church’s historical association with Resthaven, having been established in 1935 by the Methodist Church.’

‘We believe our donation acknowledged the importance of the relationship between Resthaven and the Uniting Church, and the important role of older people in the community.’

‘The program at Broadview Uniting Church is a worthy recipient of one of these grants, and we look forward to the benefits that the program will bring to older South Australians’.

The ‘Connections’ program will be held every Wednesday from February – November 2018, from 9.30am – 12 noon at Broadview Uniting Church. To find out more, phone the church directly on 8269 6193.
