Claire’s working holiday in the Fleurieu Peninsula

Claire Fox, Personal Care Assistant at Resthaven Craigmore, recently took up a unique opportunity to experience life in the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Having only worked in aged care for one year, Claire is all about taking new opportunities.

‘I was a dairy farmer in Victoria for 20 plus years, and felt it was time for a career change — that’s when I found Resthaven.’

Since beginning her employment at Resthaven Craigmore, Claire hasn’t looked back.

‘I was first interested in aged care so that I could help people. And I have found that I really love it, and I’m actually pretty good at it.’

‘I am always singing and dancing with residents. We all have a good laugh together.’

After seeing an internal ad for a ‘working holiday’ for Personal Care Workers at Resthaven Port Elliot, Claire was excited to start her new adventure.

‘I expressed my interest to the manager, and it was smooth sailing from there!’

After Resthaven organised accommodation in a nearby hotel in Victor Harbor, Claire began her two-week working holiday, from 1 July to 15 July.

‘It was an incredible experience to do what I love, in a new location – especially by the beach. It was really wonderful.’

‘The staff and residents at Resthaven Port Elliot were immediately welcoming and I loved every minute of my time there.’

When asked if she would consider another working holiday with Resthaven in the future, Claire said, ‘100%. I would absolutely do it again, and Resthaven made the process so easy for me. I barely had to lift a finger!’

‘I can see the appeal of working at Resthaven Port Elliot. The staff and residents are noticeably happy and relaxed. It’s a beautiful spot to work if you can.’
