Clients explore two-million-year-old history in the Limestone Coast

Recently, clients from Resthaven Limestone Coast Community Services were invited to tour the two-million-year-old rock formations in the Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park, Tantanoola South Australia.

This highly visited tourist spot consists of a 30m wide by 8m high rock chamber, located inside the prehistoric marine cliff, the Up and Down Rock. The unique rock formations we see today were gradually formed over 2 million years by the constant crashing of waves.

This is one of the the only naturally occurring caves in Australia that is fully wheelchair accessible.

Resthaven Limestone Coast Community Services Coordinator, Kate Farana, says, ‘We are always looking for new and exciting outings to offer clients, and the Tantanoola Caves is a popular destination, so we had to put it on the agenda!’

The group of interested clients joined together on the Resthaven bus, eager to learn more about the history of the area they reside in.

‘We all enjoyed learning more about the history of the location, and the geological explanation behind the rock formations.’

‘Following our tour, clients and staff relaxed at the local pub for a spot of lunch, visiting the Tantanoola Tiger before heading home.’

‘On the way back, clients commented on what a great experience it was and how they would love to explore more local tourist spots with the group.’

‘We enjoy offering new experiences to the clients we support. We can see firsthand that these opportunities keep the mind active and curious, while helping others to come out of their shell.’

‘We are all looking forward to our next adventure!’

    Where will they go next?
