    Continuing International Relations

‘Resthaven welcomes international visitors who share a vision of improved, quality services for older people,’ says Richard Hearn, Resthaven Chief Executive Officer.

‘We recently welcomed a family of aged care professionals from Thailand. Dr Chat Vanapruks, of Bangkok, attended the Resthaven co-hosted ‘2017 Active Ageing—Learning from our friends’, conference in Thailand last year.’

Dr Chat was accompanied by his son, Khun Kaan, and his wife, Khun Navarat, who is the manager of their aged care homes.

‘Having the opportunity to visit South Australia as part of an Austrade study tour, Dr Chat requested a visit to Resthaven, and we were delighted to play host’, says Wendy Morey, Executive Manager Workforce Development & Governance.

‘Upon arrival at Head Office, our guests met with CEO Richard Hearn to discuss the new single quality standards, before heading over to Resthaven Mitcham.’

‘Mandy Hutchinson, Manager Residential Services, gave them a tour of this recently redeveloped site. They were very impressed, particularly with the new multifunctional hall, and common areas. Khun Kaan recently completed his degree in Architecture so was very interested in the various design features incorporated for resident benefit.’

‘They felt the attention to garden design was excellent in the way it supports people to make the most of relationships and the outdoors.’

‘We discovered that the homes they have in Bangkok are a close-knit community. They were interested to see the functions of Lane Cottage, a Community Respite cottage that is co-located at Resthaven Mitcham.’

‘They thought the co-location would create great potential in their own homes, and were very grateful to see this put into action, loving the warm feel of the cottage and the person-centred model in place there.’

‘Afterwards, the group enjoyed further discussions with Resthaven CEO, Richard Hearn.

‘I am always interested in what visitors take away from seeing our services and people in action, and am pleased about the innovations we share with our colleagues from overseas.’

Resthaven works together with older people and their carers throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Fleurieu, Barossa, Riverland and Limestone Coast of South Australia.
