Employment Opportunities in Aged Care
Career opportunities in aged care are ‘unlimited,’ says Registered Nurse, Emma Read; she would know, having gone from an RN working through an agency to Clinical Nurse ACFI within the space of just eight years.
A UniSA graduate (Bachelor of Nursing), Emma’s first interaction with Resthaven was in 2011, working some shifts as an Agency Registered Nurse across a few Resthaven residential aged care homes.
She says, ‘I worked some afternoon shifts at Resthaven Leabrook, and, in 2013, I applied for a permanent role and was offered permanent employment there.’
‘Through my time as an agency RN, I had been exposed to many different aged care providers, and knew that I was making the right choice in working for Resthaven.’
‘I ended up staying at Resthaven Leabrook for close to seven years, making lifelong friendships there.’
‘I worked in a variety of roles, from RN in charge on weekends, to Complex Health RN.’
‘In 2016, I spent the year as the “Site Champion” for the Resthaven Multicultural Workforce Development Program, which aimed to improve staff education around providing culturally sensitive care to older people.’
‘In 2017, I applied for and was successful in my application to the role of Clinical Nurse.’
‘In 2018, I undertook the Resthaven Leadership Capability Development Program, which supports staff to develop leadership and team management skills.’
‘In October 2019, I again saw another opportunity and applied for the position of Clinical Nurse, ACFI, based at Resthaven Head Office.’
‘In this new role, I work closely with key staff at each site, mentoring, guiding, and educating them about the Aged Care Funding Instrument.’
‘I am really grateful for this opportunity for my career growth.’
‘I am currently undertaking the “My Home Life” leadership program, an international initiative that promotes quality of life and delivers positive change in residential aged care homes.’
‘I love working for an organisation that invests in staff development, is an industry leader, and has the ability to influence positive change in aged care.’
‘The opportunities I have been given and the scope for workplace diversity seem unlimited.’
‘Aged care is an exciting path to take. I love my career as an aged care nurse.’
