You are invited to the G-TRAC Healthy Ageing Seminar Series. The Centre continues to run seminars and workshops on key topics relevant to the health and care of older people. Delivered by a range of experts in this field, consumers, as well as health and aged care practitioners, are welcome to attend.
The next seminar is focused on Dementia.
Bridging the evidence-practice gap in dementia care- Monica Cations
This presentation will provide a brief overview of dementia (what it is, why we get it, how we diagnose it), followed by a discussion about evidence-based dementia care. What should care for people with dementia look like? How can we support people with dementia to stay independent, active, and engaged? And most challenging of all, how can we do this within the services and policies that we work in? This session will inform health professionals and equip them with some tools to make positive changes in the lives of people with dementia they work with.
Keys to dignified dementia care- Zero tolerance to all form of abuse: Improving the journey of people with dementia in the acute and community care setting- Dr Faizal Ibrahim
The presentation will explain the evolution, successes and lessons learnt in championing Dignified Dementia Care in Australia, with the aims of improving the journey of people with dementia in the acute and community care setting. Keys to pharmacovigilance in dementia care will also be discussed including the benefits and risks of non-pharmacological management versus pharmacological management of challenging behaviours in dementia.
