The Fleurieu Peninsula is the most popular retirement destination in South Australia

Sue McKechnie, Resthaven Executive Manager Community Services, says, ‘Resthaven continues to expand in the Fleurieu Pensinsula, as the relaxed lifestyle attracts retirees from all over South Australia.’

‘Recent findings from the Australian Bureau of Statistics in the Regional population by age and sex, 2020 | Australian Bureau of Statistics (abs.gov.au) report indicates that the Fleurieu Peninsula coastal towns of Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor have the oldest median ages in the state. It is the place to be for living well into older age.’

The median age is the age at which half the population is older and half is younger. Compared to the greater Adelaide area, with a median age of 39.1 years, towns such as Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor have the oldest median age in the state; Goolwa – Port Elliot (59.8 years), with Victor Harbor (58.8) closely behind.

‘Resthaven has been working on expanding our outreach offices in the Fleurieu for some time, and it really is time for this new location to open.’

‘Our services will continue to grow as client needs grow, and this is the result of that high demand we have been facing due to the age of the local population. We continue to monitor demand and will respond accordingly,’ Sue explains.

‘Clients are thrilled, as we continue to listen to them and provide the level of care needed to support older people all over South Australia.’
