• Innovative medication management project wins Better Practice Award!

    AACQA Better Practice Award
2016 Winner AACQA Better Practice Award in Clinical Care/Medication Management

We are pleased to announce that Resthaven project, ‘Managing Medication Risks in Community Services,’ has won a 2016 Better Practice Award in the Clinical Care/Medication Management category.

‘The aim of the project was to support the increasing number of older people living in the community who are self-managing their medication, and the staff who work together with them,’ said Executive Manager, Community Services, Sue McKechnie.

‘Identified by previous projects, it was found that supporting clients to take their medication safely was one of the most complex  aspects of service delivery  undertaken by community service staff.’

‘Our project developed an innovative model focused on reablement and empowerment of older people living independently in the community to self-manage their medications.’

‘It also focused on staff skill development in this area, in collaboration with clients and the staff who support them.’

‘Results of the project are promising, with surveys showing improved confidence in both clients and staff regarding self-management of medications.’

‘All of this means improved outcomes for clients in the community.’

Held by the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA), the Better Practice awards support and encourage continuous improvement in the aged care sector.

    Congratulations, Resthaven!
