    It’s Active Ageing Week!

Active Ageing Week (1-7 October) is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about healthy ageing and the benefits of lifelong physical activity – a cause which Resthaven thoroughly supports.

Clients of the Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills & Fleurieu Community Services Parkinson’s Exercise Group are very familiar with the benefits of active ageing, enjoying regular classes to ensure they ‘keep moving’.

Occupational Therapist, Caroline Tenny, says, ‘The aim of the Parkinson’s Exercise Group is to support people to do as much as they can to stay on their feet, and remain living independently at home.’

‘It is facilitated by a qualified exercise instructor, who takes the group through a range of low impact, chair based exercises.’

‘She tailors the classes to people’s needs – no one ever leaves saying “I can’t do that,” they all have success within their individual goals – it keeps everyone in a positive mindset. That’s really important.’

‘People understand the impact that Parkinson’s has on their life, and they want to do as much as they can to try and manage it – Resthaven wants to support that any way we can.’

Resthaven runs a wide range of exercise, wellness, and self-management groups and programs at community services centres and residential care homes across metropolitan Adelaide and in regional areas.
