    ‘Kitchen tours’ at Resthaven Mitcham

Mitcham new kitchen tour 2017The $13.8m redevelopment at Resthaven Mitcham is well underway, with the new kitchen and laundry areas now officially up and running.

Residents are understandably very curious, so, on 6 June, staff ran ‘tours’, giving residents the opportunity to see inside these brand new areas.

Lifestyle Coordinator, Sylvia Ortiz, organised several groups to have a look through, where they were warmly welcomed by Housekeeping team members.

‘Residents loved having a stickybeak!’ says Sylvia, ‘They were opening fridges, looking inside cupboards, and admiring the singing oven (it sings instead of beeps!).’

Manager, Mandy Hutchinson, says, ‘Staff are looking forward to working in these vastly improved work spaces.’

‘Now that the new kitchen and laundry are fully operational, work has begun on a new Hall, which replaces the old Hall, built in the early 1960s.’

‘This is one of the large communal areas residents will enjoy, along with private, comfortable spaces to socialise and entertain visitors.’

‘The upgrade will offer a much improved living environment with quality fittings, individual climate control and predominantly private rooms with ensuite bathrooms for residents.’

Stage 1 of the redevelopment is due for completion in September 2017.

Resthaven Mitcham was the first purpose built Resthaven residential aged care home and was opened in 1962. Today, it is home to around 106 older people.
