• Leabrook Celebrates Volunteers ‘Viva’ Style

Each Tuesday, volunteer, Lucille Haddy, brings joy to residents at Resthaven Leabrook when she visits.

‘Having Lucille here makes a real difference to the lifestyle program,’ says Lifestyle Coordinator, David Saddler.

‘She runs cards and scrabble in the mornings, Bingo, and “Stitch, Knit, and Natter” (our very popular knitting group).’

‘Along with the many other volunteers who work with us, Lucille is a really important member of the Resthaven Leabrook community.’

On Friday 6 May at Resthaven Leabrook, volunteers such as Lucille were celebrated with a ‘Thank You’ High Tea at the site, where the Hall was decked in streamers and featured a giant ‘Viva Volunteers’ sign, hung by David earlier that day.

‘I spent a lot of time up a very high ladder that morning, much to everyone’s amusement,’ says David.

‘One resident in particular, who used to work in construction, was happy to offer up some good-natured encouragement and advice!’

‘Residents were keen to participate in making decorations for the event, which included “Carnivale”-style masks and a huge butterfly.’

‘They, and we, are enormously grateful for the enrichment that volunteers bring to the lifestyle program, and were keen to show their appreciation.’

‘This year’s High Tea was one of our best ever, and we were so happy to see the volunteer team enjoying themselves.’

‘We look forward to doing it again next year!’

Resthaven celebrates its 450 volunteers with ‘Thank You’ events held in May every year.
