    Minds matter in dementia care

Resthaven Onkaparinga Community Services Manager, Manule Harpas, says, ‘I am thrilled to announce that on Tuesday 21 September 2021, World Alzheimer’s Day, we will launch our highly recommended Making Minds Matter (MMM) cognitive stimulation therapy program.

‘Interested clients are invited to visit us at 3 James Clark Road, Noarlunga, between 11am and 1pm to find out about this unique, seven-week program and enjoy morning tea with a team member, who can answer any questions.’

‘The program will commence at Resthaven Onkaparinga Community Services in late October, and we will explain what it entails to potential clients at the launch on 21 September to gauge interest.’

Resthaven’s evidence based MMM program is designed to provide purposeful activities for older people with mild to moderate dementia, using cognitive stimulation therapy principles involving physical and mental exercises and activities to stimulate thinking concentration and memory.

‘Following successful trials of this program, Resthaven Community Services will soon offer it across metropolitan Adelaide and in regional areas,’ Manule explains.

‘We anticipate it will have great benefits for clients who are living with dementia, as it fills a gap in dementia-specific programs for older people living in the community.’

Resthaven’s Making Minds Matter program consists of four elements:

    • MMM Level 1: Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (the initial seven week program)
    • Level 2: Maintenance program
    • MMM: Social Group
    • MMM individual support

‘We are keen wait to see clients benefiting from it.’
