$18m ‘aged care precinct’ heralds new era in aged care

Opened in 1958, Resthaven’s third-oldest residential aged care home at 53 Swanport Road, Murray Bridge, has undergone a complete transformation, heralding a ‘new era’ in aged care in the regional city.

New innovations at the fully redeveloped aged care home, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018, include an internet café, premium single rooms with ensuite bathrooms and river views, a dedicated hall for events, a shop, courtyard areas, and even a café with views of the River Murray, where residents and families can enjoy time together in a communal, light-filled space.

‘Everyone expects high-quality amenities, and we are proud of the high standard we offer,’ says Manager Residential Services, Debbie Lindner. ‘

‘We have been pleased with the strong demand, with places filling quickly.’

‘We also cater for couples, with several dedicated couples rooms that have proved popular.’

Another innovation is the inclusion of community services at the landmark site, with purpose-built office space for Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills & Fleurieu Community Services staff, creating an ‘aged care precinct’ for older people across the Murraylands.

‘Demand for in-home care and support continues to grow, and the new offices and group program space will allow for further expansion in Community Services,’ explains Cecelia Oxborrow, Manager Community Services.

The $18 million redevelopment was officially opened on 18 January 2019, by President of the Resthaven Board, Mark Porter, and dedicated by the Moderator of the Uniting Church in South Australia, Rev Sue Ellis.

CEO, Richard Hearn, says, ‘I am very pleased with the outcome of this development – it is outstanding.’

‘We greatly appreciate the positive nature in which the Murray Bridge community has responded to this major project, which is of great importance to our consumers and this rural community.’

‘The residential expansion and demand for home care has led to more jobs and opportunities for volunteers.’

‘This project was complex, and we are appreciative of the patience of residents and families throughout the process, and the great leadership of site staff.’

Resthaven’s residential and in-home care and support options are offered throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.
