Congratulations to Mark Bednall (Manager Residential Services, Resthaven Leabrook) and Carol Vlachos (Care Coordinator, Resthaven Westbourne Park), who recently graduated from the award-winning My Home Life program.
What is My Home Life?
‘My Home Life is an international, evidence based, leadership support program, brought to Australia through the SA Innovation Hub,’ says CEO, Richard Hearn.
‘It is specifically designed for aged care, and is a proven program designed to release the qualities that leaders need to adapt, build trust, and inspire those with whom they work, to achieve their organisation’s goals.’
‘We were understandably delighted at Mark and Carol’s completion of the My Home Life program, and I attended the event to present Mark’s certificate personally [pictured right]. Unfortunately, Carol was unable to attend, but was presented with her certificate by Acting Senior Manager Residential Services, Anthea Tyler, at a later date.’ (pictured left)
‘At the ceremony, all participants spoke of their experience in the program, and the benefits it had to the services they lead.’
Mark says, ‘I loved the concept of the My Home Life program.’
‘It aims to include all individuals in a relationship with a care home with positive effect – in fact, it can only be practiced in engagement with others.’
‘The learning process was inclusive and interactive, and the facilitators were passionate and knowledgeable.’
‘It’s easy to appreciate how the My Home Life program could create, improve and underpin a positive organisational culture.’
‘I’m really appreciative of the opportunity to be involved.’
Two other Resthaven staff are currently mid-way through the My Home Life course: Care Coordinators, Susan Biffin (Resthaven Marion) and Jessica Margrate (Resthaven Mitcham).
Richard says, ‘We wish Susan and Jessica well as they work towards completion, and look forward to the learnings they will bring to Resthaven residents, and their respective staff teams.’
Resthaven offers a comprehensive range of workforce development programs for staff. In addition, a staff development fund is available to support some staff to undertake further education.
‘A skilled and competent workforce is imperative in being able to deliver high quality aged care and support.’
