    National Palliative Care Week 2018

This week is National Palliative Care Week. 20–26 May is an annual awareness raising week organised by Palliative Care Australia.

‘What matters most?’ is this year’s theme, encouraging people to ask themselves what they want from end of life care.

‘It’s not just about how and where your life ends, but the lead up to this’, says Peter Jenkin, Resthaven Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP).

‘End of life may not be just days or weeks. It can be months and years, and by planning this time, you can ensure your best quality of life.’

‘You should remember you may still be well during this time, so if you want to, you should plan that holiday overseas, and tick items off the bucket list. This is why a plan is important, to have it in place when the time comes.’

Peter recently featured in a Palliative Care Australia (PCA) film in recognition of his 2017 National Palliative Care Australia Award, highlighting the importance of palliative care.

‘I was honoured to be asked to contribute. I believe it will assist to inform the community.’
