Resthaven teams take on new scenarios in Team Talent Showcase

In late September, eight teams of six Resthaven employees put their heads together to join in the Resthaven Team Talent Showcase. An initiative of Resthaven CEO, Darren Birbeck, this is the second year the event has been held.

‘Last year’s event exceeded our expectations,’ Darren says.

‘Everyone had a great time developing their skills and learning more about how they interact within a team. We are always looking at different ways to develop the skills and knowledge of staff and the Team Talent Showcase is proving to be very popular.’

Created in partnership with Top Branch Consulting, the Team Talent Showcase aims to identify, recognise, inspire and retain Resthaven’s next generation of leaders by providing them with unique team-based management simulation experiences. The activities are designed to increase staff members’ confidence to be leaders within Resthaven.

This year, the event was switched up a little, with each team having access to a coach who helped them achieve their best. Across the course of the day, teams participated in role-playing exercises, as well as preparing for their presentation on the topic of ‘What could Resthaven implement in the next 12 months to be recognised as the preferred aged care employer in South Australia?’

Team performances were assessed on the day, with activities scored and prizes awarded to the best team’s performance across eight categories. Post-event, participants receive feedback and debriefs. In a surprise for those involved, this year’s event also included ‘intruders’ who joined the teams after lunch, deliberately disrupting the team dynamics that had developed.

‘Our teams have really and truly come out of their comfort zones,’ Taryn Sexton, Principal at Top Branch Consulting says. ‘They learned to challenge a lot of the assumptions they came in with, as well as learning about team dynamics, public speaking and trying new things.’

The Resthaven Team Talent Showcase is expected to take on a new format again in 2025. Watch this space!
