Resthaven Leabrook celebrates 90 years of Resthaven

On Friday 15 August, 106 members of the Resthaven Leabrook community came together to mark Resthaven’s 90th anniversary in style with a memorable afternoon tea.

The hall was transformed for the occasion, with long tables adorned with gold plinths of white roses, and the stage lit up with glowing ‘90’ and ‘Happy Birthday’ signage.

Relieving Residential Manager, Cathy Ryan, opened the celebration before CEO Darren Birbeck reflected on Resthaven’s proud history — and Leabrook’s special place as Resthaven’s longest-standing residential aged care home.

Resthaven Deputy Board President, Stephanie Rozokos, and resident Mrs Lorraine Foster also shared their thoughts, with Lorraine remarking, ‘Resthaven must be commended — their attention to detail is exemplary.’

Coordinating Chaplain Dr Nina Corlett offered a heartfelt blessing: ‘Today, we pause to celebrate a remarkable milestone — 90 years of care, compassion and community.’

‘As we celebrate the past, may we step into the future with renewed commitment — to serve, to uplift, and to honour the lives entrusted to our care,’ she said.

After a lively Happy Birthday sing-along, Darren, Stephanie and Lorraine cut the cake to warm applause, while staff marked the moment by popping the champagne. Everyone enjoyed an abundant spread of sweet and savoury delights before being treated to a full afternoon of entertainment.

Residents, staff and families gathered for pictures at the photobooth while pianist Richard McDonald filled the room with classic melodies. Next, entertainer Nayima Hassan captivated everyone with a show-stopping belly dance performance — complete with a live snake!

The celebration was a joyful and fitting tribute to Resthaven’s 90 years of care. Since the event, many residents and family members have come forward to congratulate the site on the success of the afternoon.
