Resthaven 75th Anniversary Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship recipient
Nurturing Diversity in Aged Care
Resthaven 75th Anniversary Undergraduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing Scholarship recipient, Carissa Willis.
Resthaven is committed to the future workforce of aged care and continues to fund various scholarships across South Australian universities.
This year, we congratulate Resthaven 75th Anniversary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing Scholarship recipient, and mature aged student, Carissa Willis.
Currently in her third year of Bachelor of Nursing at the University of South Australia, Carissa says, ‘This opportunity gives me the financial stability for when my placement occurs, which means everything when I have kids at home and bills to pay.’
‘It’s essentially six months of unpaid work, so this scholarship ensures that I can complete my duties while knowing my home and kids are taken care of.’
‘As I am already an Enrolled Nurse, I have had the opportunity to work in both acute and aged care. I find I am better suited in aged care and I enjoy making a positive impact on their day-to-day care.’
‘I wish to stay in aged care and move into a more clinical nurse role. I want to help provide the best care to the older population, and be able to help educate new nurses on ways to do that and how they can improve the care they provide.’
‘This opportunity places motivation in me to continue what I have been working towards, particularly as my only doubt was financially motivated, which has now thankfully been removed.’
We look forward to seeing your achievements in the sector, Carissa!
