Philip and Marley at Resthaven Craigmore

Mr Philip Buss of Resthaven Craigmore has developed a special bond with ‘Marley,’ the German Shepherd owned by Acting Lifestyle Coordinator, Samantha Mathews.

Samantha says, ‘Marley is three years old, and started visiting Resthaven Craigmore in October 2018, after her brother passed away.’

‘She was lonely by herself, so, with the permission of the Manager, I started bringing her to work with me once or twice a month.’

‘When Mr Buss moved into the home in January 2019, he made an immediate connection with Marley.’

‘Mr Buss is a huge dog lover and used to own a German Shepherd, so it’s no surprise that they became fast friends.’

‘As soon as Marley walks into Resthaven Craigmore, Mr Buss lights up.’

‘He and Marley will spend more than an hour just hanging out on the couch having quality time together.’

‘When the group lifestyle activities are finished in the Hall, some residents remain to enjoy a personal visit with Marley.’

Whilst she remains on a lead, Samantha says that Marley is a gentle and kind dog, who always looks forward to visiting with residents.

‘She sits and stands on command, and is well rewarded with treats from residents,’ Samantha says.

‘It is wonderful to see the beneficial effect that Marley, and all our other visiting animals, have in improving the quality of life of residents.’
