Resthaven Aberfoyle Park celebrates 90th anniversary
All the glitz and glamour of the 1930s was on show at Resthaven Aberfoyle Park on Tuesday 25 February, when the residential aged care home celebrated Resthaven’s 90th anniversary.
Around 60 residents and invited guests were welcomed to the ‘Gatsby’ themed event by Resthaven Aberfoyle Park resident Mr Lloyd Mattner, 92. He then introduced Resthaven CEO Darren Birbeck, who spoke about Resthaven’s history and the importance of its charitable roots.
‘Ninety years ago, in the coastal southern suburb of Brighton, Resthaven opened its doors for the first time,’ Darren Birbeck, Resthaven CEO says.
‘Since then, we have stayed true to our original purpose to provide quality care, support and accommodation to older people.’
Over the years, Resthaven has grown to 12 residential aged care homes and 23 community service locations across Adelaide and regional South Australia, and 31 retirement living villages. Resthaven Aberfoyle Park is the newest of the residential homes, having been officially opened in October 2018.
Those present at the anniversary celebrations enjoyed a musical performance from Aberfoyle Park High School students who played hits from the ages including Somewhere over the Rainbow, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and Chattanooga Choo Choo.
Performers from The Right Creative also took centre stage, with their Flapper Dance routine a highlight of the afternoon. Historic vehicles were on display at the home in the morning, and many staff dressed up for the occasion, with a few ‘matrons’ supporting residents!
