Resthaven Limestone Coast clients travel interstate
Interstate trip the ‘best outing’
On 9 September 2019, clients from Resthaven Limestone Coast Community Services boarded a bus for a much looked forward to trip across the border, to Casterton, Victoria.
Clients from Millicent travelled by car down to the James Street, Mount Gambier Community Services office, where they met the Mount Gambier clients.
After brief greetings, they hopped on a bus together, and drove for roughly 70 km before reaching their destination—Casterton, birthplace of the Kelpie.
First stop in Casterton was the Railway Museum, where the group met Beryl, who took them for a guided tour.
Second stop was lunch at Herbert’s Bakery-Café, where they enjoyed a delicious lunch.
Third stop was the Visitor Information Centre, which is also the home of the Australian Kelpie Centre. Clients loved reading about the story of how the Kelpie breed came about: the original ‘Kelpie’ was born in 1871; her parents being a pair of black and tan Collies imported from Scotland by Warrock Homestead owner, George Robertson.
The trip concluded with a drive around the town, and around popular bird watching and fishing spot, the Ess Lagoon.
Heading back to Mount Gambier on the bus, clients discussed their trip and got to know each other better, reminiscing about the history they saw at the museum, and discussed how thoroughly they enjoyed the trip.
We arrived back in Mount Gambier mid-afternoon, with clients laying much praise on the day. One client remarked, ‘I saw products I hadn’t seen since the early 1960s, which certainly took me back in time!’
‘The lunch at the Bakery was terrible because a person only had to look at the food to put on weight—kidding, the food was excellent!’
Others said, ‘It was one of the best outings I have been on for a while’, and ‘It was a great day out.’ All are looking forward to the next one!
