Resthaven Mitcham Redevelopment is nearing completion

    Resthaven Mitcham Redevelopment Update

Resthaven Mitcham’s $14 million redevelopment is nearing completion.

Mandy Hutchinson, Manager, Resthaven Mitcham Residential Services, says, ‘The Resthaven Mitcham redevelopment is moving along smoothly, with completion planned for the end of May.’

‘The roof is complete on the ‘Banksia’ area extension, and the new front entrance off Hill Street is taking shape.’

‘The building plans are displayed at reception for residents, visitors and families to see.’

‘Residents and staff alike are looking forward to the site returning to normal very soon, albeit with our lovely new areas.’

‘The site community has been very patient throughout the building works, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. We are on the countdown – it’s not long to go now!’

’Stage two involved a temporary relocation of the front entrance from Hill Street – back to Smith-Dorrien Street, where it was for ten years. The final stage of the redevelopment will result in the main entrance returning to Hill Street.’

Stage 2 involved demolition of older parts of the sites, construction of six additional rooms and conversion of all shared rooms in the ‘Banksia’ area to all become single rooms with private ensuites. Construction of a new entrance on Hill Street will complete the build.

‘We apologise for the inconvenience caused during the redevelopment, which can be confusing for visitors, family and staff.’

‘All resident rooms now feature modern ensuites, with lovely new lounge and dining areas.’

Resthaven Mitcham was purpose built in 1962 at 17 Hill Street, Kingswood, and has undergone several upgrades and renovations throughout the past 56 years. Over that time, thousands of older South Australians have benefited from Resthaven’s quality aged care services.

Resthaven has a planned approach to upgrading residential aged care sites so that they meet the needs and expectations of current and future customers in South Australia.
