In November 2017, Stage 1 of Resthaven Mitcham’s $14 million redevelopment was completed.
Resthaven has a planned approach to upgrading residential aged care sites so that they meet the needs and expectations of current and future customers.
Mandy Hutchinson, Manager, Resthaven Mitcham Residential Services, says, ’Stage two is now well underway. This stage involves a temporary relocation of the front entrance from Hill Street – back to Smith-Dorrien Street, where it was for ten years.’
Stage 2 involves demolition of older parts of the sites (‘Clement’ and ‘Crump’), construction of six additional rooms and conversion of all shared rooms in the ‘Banksia’ area to all become single rooms with private ensuites. Construction of a new entrance on Hill Street will complete the stage.
‘We apologise for the inconvenience caused during the redevelopment, which can be confusing for visitors, family and staff.’
‘The completed stage one of the redevelopment included construction of the new ‘Lavender’ and ‘Jasmine’ areas. Together, these incorporate 35 single rooms and four rooms that will accommodate couples. All feature modern ensuites, lovely new lounge and dining areas, and newly landscaped external gardens.’
‘Other welcome additions include new administration and staff rooms, and a new Main Hall.’
‘The new areas look fantastic, and everyone is very excited to see what the next stage brings.’
‘When residents moved into their new rooms, there was a clear feeling of anticipation in the air!’
‘They are all looking forward to enjoying the Christmas Party on Friday 22 December.’
‘Family and friends who visit over the Christmas period will be surprised and delighted, we hope!’
Resthaven Mitcham was purpose built in 1962 at 17 Hill Street, Kingswood, and has undergone several upgrades and renovations throughout the past 55 years. Over that time, thousands of older South Australians have benefited from Resthaven’s quality aged care services.
