Keeping engaged and social
For Mrs Ann Cleaver of Gawler, keeping engaged in life and socialising with friends is very important. She benefits from a range of services provided by Resthaven Northern Community Services at 16 Gillingham Road, Elizabeth, which enable her to live independently in her own home.
‘I seriously could not cope without Resthaven – my house would be an absolute mess!’
Ann relies on the support Resthaven provides through a home care package that is tailored to suit her individual needs and choices.
‘I have assistance with house cleaning, shopping, and attending a social group – I get all sorts of services,’ says Mrs Cleaver.
‘The social group is probably my favourite activity, because that gets you out of the house.’
‘When you can’t drive anymore, it’s really nice to know that someone’s going to come and take you out.’
‘The Resthaven staff come and pick me up and take me to Resthaven Northern Community Services at Elizabeth for the social group, and then they bring me home afterwards – it’s just wonderful.’
‘We have a birthday celebration once a month, and sometimes we do a quiz – it’s usually something to occupy our minds.’
‘We always celebrate special days like Valentine’s Day, Easter or Halloween.’
‘Last Halloween, we made green monsters out of papier mache. You’ve never seen us get in such a mess as that!’
‘It’s a lovely group, and the people who run it are amazing.’
‘The staff are just so caring. During the heatwave earlier this year, the Resthaven staff came and took me to their offices, then arranged for someone to take me to a shopping centre for the day.’
‘Just to think of doing something like that – they’re so caring. I really appreciate everything they do.’
For people who would benefit from support at home, Resthaven can assist with the application process through My Aged Care. Resthaven Community Services offer the full range of aged care services, from a little support in the home, support to stay well through therapy and exercise programs, Home Care Packages levels 1 – 4, support for veterans and private services. Resthaven also provides respite support for carers.
