Resthaven sponsors Listening Posts for regional South Australians

Resthaven has sponsored ‘Listening Posts,’ facilitated by the Council on the Ageing (COTA) in South Australia, to be held throughout regional areas in September and October.

Richard Hearn, Resthaven Chief Executive Officer, said ‘Resthaven supports like-minded organisations such as COTA SA in their work to benefit older South Australians. We are happy to support the Listening Posts and look forward to hearing about the experiences of rural people.’

‘Although we are not directly involved, we support this COTA initiative and process. The information learned will assist in better understanding of the needs and matters of importance to individuals in rural communities.’

‘The purpose of the Listening Posts is to give older people living in rural areas the opportunity to share what is important to them, and learn their experience of ageing in their communities, with the aim of informing COTA SA policy.’

To make access easy, the Listening Posts will be held in local venues where older people regularly spend time, such as local libraries.

Listening Posts have been arranged for Murray Bridge, Port Lincoln, Wudinna, Kimba, Whyalla, Kapunda, Waikerie, Berri, Loxton, Nuriootpa, Lyndoch, Clare, Port Pirie, Port Broughton and Kadina.

Listening Posts will also be held in the Fleurieu and upper and lower south east.

‘It is very important to engage with our community and learn the key touch points in rural areas through these Listening Posts,’ Richard said.

‘Resthaven Riverland Community Services were delighted to support the Listening Posts in Loxton on 18 September.’
