Social connection group finds hidden talent

Resthaven Northern Community Services Social Connection group holds the first painting class of 2021 and is off to a ‘colourful’ start.

‘Clients of our Northern Social Group have been anticipating our painting class all year, and recently, we held our first session,’ says Kelly Ainsworth, Assistant Manager Resthaven Northern Community Services.

‘Aside from the fun of painting, clients enjoy this time to relax and take time for themselves in a creative way.’

Staff presented the class beautifully, setting the table up with easels, an array of paint and paintbrushes to choose from, all while providing a spot of morning tea for the participants to enjoy.

‘The brief was to create, using a simple technique, a sunset with silhouetted trees in bloom.’

‘Some were old hands at the medium, opting to experiment with their styles and colours within the brief, while others were painting for the first time.’

‘Before clients got stuck into their artwork, we had a test run, where staff assisted the beginners with their technique for acrylic painting.’

‘We all got a bit messy – that is half the fun!’

‘Clients had a lovely morning, taking their time to perfect their masterpieces, before presenting to the class – they all turned out looking fantastic!’

‘Volunteer, Jenny, who assisted in the Gawler group, had never painted before. She realised a hidden talent and has now purchased supplies for home and is looking to join an art group herself.’

‘It was amazing to see everyone’s different styles and interpretations come though. A day well spent and looking forward to our next class.’

    ‘How wonderful these sessions are!’

    What will they paint next?
