Resthaven social group clients add to colourful town display

If you are travelling through the Riverland town of Barmera during August, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve stumbled into a wonderland of colour and fun.

The event is part of the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival and has been coordinated by the Barmera Theatre Art and Craft Gallery.

Resthaven became involved in the event after hearing about it through their local network.

‘Our social groups meet weekly in Berri, Barmera and Renmark,’ Resthaven Riverland Community Services Program Assistant, Lisa Haymes says. ‘We mentioned the project to them, and everyone was interested in taking part. We often do knitting and crochet as a group, so it was nice to all work on a project together.’

Resthaven’s yarn artwork now adorns one of the trees in Barmera’s main street.

Recently, Resthaven clients have visited ‘their tree’ – making a day of it with a bus trip to visit the town and see the other attractions.

Well done to everyone involved – the street looks amazing!
