Thank You, Volunteers!
This week is National Volunteers Week, when Australia recognises its six million Volunteers nationally.
Last year, Volunteering Australia announced a new contemporary and inclusive definition of volunteering:
“Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.”
Volunteering has been at the heart of Resthaven since it was established in 1935. Each year, Resthaven celebrates the work of around 500 volunteers throughout May with special ‘thank you’ high teas.
‘This year’s theme is Viva Volunteers,’ says Stacey Thompson, Manager Volunteer Services.
‘Our Volunteer High Teas started with a huge Ola! – Viva theme at Resthaven Murray Bridge, for the volunteers in the Murray Bridge area.’
‘Volunteers and staff joined in the spirit of the theme, wearing some very wide brimmed sombreros!’
‘Several volunteers received service awards for five and ten years voluntary service at Resthaven.’
‘It also gave us an opportunity to thank two volunteers who have retired after 14 and 16 years service.’
Stacey Thompson presented the awards, along with site Manager Debbie Lindner and Board Member, Suzanne Fuller, who received a five year award for her service to the Resthaven Board.
This is the first of many celebrations Resthaven hosts to thank volunteers throughout May.
‘Volunteers increase our flexibility, expertise, energy and social connections. Resthaven’s community wouldn’t be the same without the power of volunteers,’ Stacey explains.
