• Tram Ride to Glenelg

Resthaven Leabrook residents at GlenelgOn 20 February, residents embarked on a very special bus trip to ride the tram down to Glenelg.

Lifestyle Assistant, Julie Glacken, organised the trip. With the support of volunteer bus driver, Peter Johinke, volunteer, Fran Lagadu, and carer, Rachana Patel, the operation went forward with military precision.

Boarding the Resthaven bus in record time, we headed for the Entertainment Centre and our rendezvous with the tram. Our friendly State Transport were very helpful, and we were soon on our way down to Glenelg.

As usual, Julie had done an excellent job of organising the weather, and the sunny but not too hot day made for perfect conditions for the trip. Beryl was in her element with a tourist seated next to her. She didn’t draw breath till the South Road overpass!

Resthaven Leabrook goes for a tram rideThere was lots of interest in our surrounding as we travelled through neighbourhoods that some residents used to spend time in. Many said that things hadn’t changed that much. At Glenelg, we were entertained by the small children playing in the Moseley Square fountains. A few suggested that we could have a turn too!

Everyone said that they had a lovely day, and were very impressed by the new trams. The last time they had been on the tram was many years ago, and they were very different then.

Our thanks to volunteers, Fran and Peter, for supporting us on the day. It was a great day out!
