• Interim Visiting Arrangements at Residential Care Homes

    Visiting Hours

    Current visiting hours are:
    Monday to Friday 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm
    Weekends and Public Holidays 1pm to 5pm

    Visiting is restricted to one visit per day by 2 visitors for a maximum duration of 1 hour. Children under the age of 16 years are permitted to enter the home (as 1 of the 2 visitors), however, they MUST be in the company of an adult. In addition, they must meet all other entry screening criteria.

    The main site entry is the only entry point to the home at this time.

    Whilst South Australia continues to have a high level of COVID-19 community transmission, the following visiting arrangements are in place:

    The arrangements include the entry requirements within the South Australian Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities) (COVID-19).

    Under current Emergency Management Directions, you cannot enter a Residential Aged Care Facility if:

    • you have undertaken a COVID-19 test and are awaiting the test result (unless you have had a COVID-19 test in accordance with routine surveillance testing of asymptomatic persons, documentation to support this exemption must be provided at the time of visit)
    • during the 14 days immediately preceding the entry, you had known contact (other than contact during which the person wore appropriate personal protective equipment), with a person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19
    • you have a temperature higher than 38°C, or have a history of fever or chills in the preceding 72 hours, or symptoms of acute respiratory infection or loss of taste and smell
    • you have not had your 2021 seasonal influenza vaccination*
    • you have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least 2 doses – after 29 January, an approved COVID-19 booster will also be required)*
    • you are a Vaccinated Arrival identified under the Emergency Management (Arrivals – Associated Direction) (COVID-19) Direction 2021, that prohibits entering a high-risk setting such as a RACF for a period specified in the Associated Direction
    • you have been in a restricted zone, an exposure site; or any other locations determined by SA Health on the SA Health Contact Tracing website
    • you have been advised, or you are aware, that you are a close contact of a known COVID-19 positive case and have been advised you need to isolate and cannot enter a high-risk setting.
    Please be aware, you may need to wait a short time to have the COVID-19 screening requirements undertaken on entry.
    • A 2-step screening process for entering the facility will be conducted for all persons and includes:
      On entering the home, all visitors must check in via the SA COVID Safe QR Code and complete the screening questions in the Resthaven electronic Visitor Management system. If you do not meet the screening criteria you are NOT permitted to enter
    • All visitors must provide evidence of their 2021 seasonal influenza vaccination. From 6 December 2021, any person entering a RACF MUST provide evidence of at least two doses of the COVID-19 Vaccination. The exception is those with approved medical exemptions, a child aged six (6) months or younger for Influenza Vaccination, and a child aged 12 years and 2 months or less, for the COVID-19 Vaccination*
    • Evidence of COVID-19 Vaccination can be in the form of a COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate on the COVID-SAfe Check-in App, myGov, or Medicare
    • Evidence must show the person’s name and date the certificate is valid from
    • When leaving the home, you must sign out, attend hand hygiene and leave only via the main entrance.
      When visiting the home, please note:
    • You may only visit your family member/friend.
    • Visits are to occur in the resident’s room.
    • On entry to the home, all visitors are requested to attend to their hand hygiene.
    • Maintain physical distancing from others of at least 1.5m wherever possible, including within the resident’s room.
    • Whilst visiting in the home, basic infection control practices must be observed:
      – Handwashing facilities and alcohol hand gel dispensers are available for your use at the entrance and throughout the home.
      – Please maintain good cough etiquette by covering your coughs and sneezes.

    From 29 January 2022, COVID-19 booster vaccinations of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine will be a mandatory requirement for visitors to and people employed or engaged by or on behalf of residential aged care facilities, or who provide personal care and support duties for in-home and community aged care.
