• I love to have a beer with Peter

Resthaven Malvern resident and volunteer enjoy a beer togetherAccording to Resthaven resident, Peter Lathlean, the India/Australia test match is best enjoyed with a cold beer and good company. Volunteer, Lloyd Winter, couldn’t agree more!

Lloyd, who moved into a Resthaven retirement living unit around 12 months ago, not only facilitates the Men’s Group at Resthaven Malvern, but also regularly visits Peter in his suite, where the men watch the cricket together on Peter’s 42 inch television.

They enjoy a nice, cold beer while they watch sport and ‘shoot the breeze’.

‘I really enjoy Peter’s company,’ says Lloyd, ‘and the beer’s good, too!’

‘We first met at the Men’s Group, where I was doing a presentation about “Old Adelaide”’.

‘I try to think of different things to make the time spent together interesting, so I was doing a quiz, with chocolate frogs as prizes.’

‘About halfway through, I realised Peter was answering all of the questions! He really likes chocolate frogs.’

‘Turns out, that’s not the only thing we have in common. We both worked in the city before our retirement, come from big families, and have similar views on politics.’

‘And, of course, we both love a beer with our cricket.’

Resthaven residents are supported by 470 volunteers at residential and community services locations across South Australia.

Each year, Resthaven celebrates volunteering. This year, the High Tea theme is ‘Threads of Life – a yarn often starts with “Hello”’.

Peter and Lloyd certainly enjoy a yarn together over the cricket.
