• Volunteer, Marj, retires aged 95

In May 2016, volunteer, Marj Holman (95), formally ‘retired’, after 20 years of volunteer service to Resthaven Westbourne Park.

‘Marj has volunteered in the site shop for the past 20 years,’ says Resthaven Westbourne Park Manager, Marian Greenshields. ‘She has also been a Chaplain’s Assistant.’

‘She is always cheerful and ready for a chat, and a great support for residents who need a listening ear.’

‘Marj is also happy to help out other volunteers at the drop of a hat.’

‘She is not just a volunteer, but a friend.’

The annual volunteer ‘Thank You’ High Tea, held on 13 May at Resthaven Mitcham, was a perfect opportunity to acknowledge Marj’s 20 year volunteering career, and thank her for the joy she has brought to the lives of residents and staff alike.

Resthaven Manager, Volunteer Services, Stacey Thompson, says, ‘These events, held at all Resthaven sites throughout May, give us the opportunity to thank volunteers for all that they do to improve the quality of life for Resthaven residents and clients.’

‘Marj was celebrated at this event, along with other long serving volunteers from Resthaven Malvern, Mitcham and Agedcare Alternatives.’

‘Volunteers increase our flexibility, expertise, energy and social connections. Resthaven’s community wouldn’t be the same without the power of volunteers.’
