Mr and Mrs Sykes stay together thanks to Resthaven

Resident, Mr Stan Sykes, couldn’t have been happier to get into Resthaven Bellevue Heights when he did, to stay together with his wife, Margaret.

‘Four years ago, in October, my wife fell and broke her leg and arm at the same time – fell badly. A room became vacant here for her.’

Not wanting to be apart, Stan then applied for a residential aged care place at Resthaven Bellevue Heights and was delighted when a place became available.

‘I qualified because I’ve had cancer and was 87, so I managed to get in here with her.’ Stan visits Margaret every day.

‘I’m 90 now, and as much as possible with all the aches and pains, I’m quite happy with things. Yes, I have my wife, and it’s our 70th anniversary next year. Things to look forward to and things to look forward to in here.’

‘The best thing about Resthaven is the variety of things that are going on. There’s so much going on… I’m glad when the weekend comes, and I can have a rest!’

Established in 1935, Resthaven is a South Australian not-for-profit aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church in Australia.
