Independent Retirement Living
Independent Retirement Living Units (self care) offer maximum independence, privacy and security.
The Retirement Units are similar to home units found in the general community and some retirement villages. They are available to older people who continue to maintain an independent lifestyle.

General unit description
Most units have two bedrooms. Curtains, blinds, light fittings and carpets are provided in units as well as flyscreens and security doors. A reverse cycle air conditioner is provided in each unit and there are built in wardrobes in most bedrooms. Carports can be made available on request. Residents furnish their own units and are responsible for their own laundry, cleaning their unit, meals, shopping and so on.
Communal facilities
Residents are welcome to use the communal facilities available on site and participate in many social activities and programs. While all grounds and garden areas are maintained by Resthaven personnel, opportunities exist for those interested in gardening to ‘adopt’ a garden area adjacent to their unit.
Occupancy
Residents purchase a licence to occupy a unit. This means that they have a lifetime right to occupy the unit, but do not own the actual bricks and mortar or land. A fortnightly maintenance fee, reviewed annually, covers council rates, gardening, sewer and water rates (within limitations), administration expenses, repairs and maintenance of buildings and plant.
Residents are responsible for their own personal contents insurance, public liability insurance and utility accounts (gas, electricity, telephone).
Change in circumstance
Resthaven Independent Retirement Living Units are co-located at sites that offer Residential care. If a resident’s health care needs necessitate a change in accommodation, such as a move to Low Care or High Care, preference will be given to residents. Any move to Residential care is subject to government regulated assessment by Aged Care Assessment Teams, Resthaven assessments and availability of appropriate accommodation.
