Leisure and Lifestyle
A planned activities program plays a vital role in contributing to residents’ well being and quality of life.
Lifestyle staff meet with individual residents to record information about the history, background, interests and abilities of each resident. This information is utilised to plan and regularly evaluate individual, group and site-wide lifestyle activity programs.
Feedback from residents is regularly sought to ensure the lifestyle programs reflect current areas of interest.
Examples of lifestyle activities offered at Resthaven include:
- Current Affairs e.g. newspaper reading and discussion groups
- Reminiscence sessions
- Music and concerts
- Cards and Board Games
- Poetry and Brainteaser Quizzes
- Carpet bowls
- Men’s group
- Bingo
- Bus trips
- Armchair travel
- Guest speakers
- Knowledge programs
On admission, an individual Plan of Care is developed in consultation with each resident. There is an ongoing review process undertaken to ensure it reflects the residents needs, aspirations and interests. Privacy of information is respected
(refer Privacy Statement).
Regular newsletters communicate important information and items of interest to ensure that residents are kept informed.
Each facility has access to a variety of lifestyle resources. These may include site libraries stocked with large print books for residents to borrow, site café for social get togethers, and internet computer access. Local council mobile libraries may visit the site.
Pets
Some residential care facilities have specially trained 'pets as therapy' animals for which formal approval is required.
Volunteers may bring pets as therapy to visit, but personal pets are not permitted.
