Julie Tansing’s 20-year career at Resthaven
This month, Resthaven Clinical Nurse Workforce Development, Julie Tansing, will celebrate her 20-year milestone with Resthaven, along with an impressive 54 years in the nursing profession.
In the last two decades, Julie has become an integral part of the Resthaven education team, spearheading a specialised Parkinson’s Disease training program for staff across the organisation.
Julie began her nursing career in 1969, working in hospitals, the community, and doctor’s clinics, before making the move to Resthaven in 2003.
After initially being employed as a Trainer, Julie soon moved to the position of Program Manager of Training and Development (now Workforce Development), before becoming Preceptor of Resthaven’s Transition to Professional Practice Program, mentoring nurse graduates in 2012.
Now, Julie visits staff across Resthaven, passing on her in-depth knowledge of Parkinson’s Disease, resulting in a significant improvement in clients’ everyday experience, and long-term quality of life.
Resthaven is a corporate member of the Australian College of Nursing, of which Julie is on the leadership team.
Upon reaching her 20th anniversary with Resthaven, Julie reflects, ‘There have been moments of great challenge and reward.’
‘It was a special time for me when I worked with the graduate nurses, nurturing them to grow into the professionals they are today; and now, I find a lot of fulfilment in conducting specialised Parkinson’s Disease training for our current workforce—a diagnosis I am both personally and professionally motivated towards.’
‘Throughout my Resthaven journey, I have enjoyed the opportunities to impart my knowledge to others, and to implement an important education program for the future of aged care.’
‘It is a real honour for me, and looking back, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.’
On 14 July, Resthaven will celebrate Julie’s 20 years of service at the annual Resthaven Staff Appreciation Awards.
