A ‘quality’ of work life like no other — Trudi’s career with Resthaven

Fifteen years ago, Administrative Assistant Quality, Trudi Amendola, made the move from retail to aged care, in search of a career with more meaning.

Trudi explains, ‘Since I left school, I had worked in administration and store management roles for a discount supermarket, and a footwear chain.’

‘My interest to change paths and pursue aged care was because of the wonderful care my nanna received from the staff at Resthaven Westbourne Park. It opened my eyes to another type of “work life” — a fulfilling career that really had meaning and made a positive difference to someone’s wellbeing.’

‘I applied for an administrative job at Resthaven but, unfortunately, there were no employment vacancies at the time, so I worked in administration for another aged care provider, where my skills evolved over eleven years.’

‘Joining Resthaven was always front of mind for me — I never lost my motivation to eventually end up here!’

With new skills on hand, Trudi successfully applied for an administrative assistant role in the Quality team in June 2020, and has never looked back!

‘Based at Resthaven Head Office, my primary role within the Quality team is document management. I get to showcase my skills and creativity in organisation, enhance current processes, and develop new systems, as well as maintain current systems,’ says Trudi.

‘I really like to think outside the box, a trait that has developed from my varied work background and life skills, as well as learning from trial and error!’

‘For me, working at Resthaven feels like home. Being part of a successful team with fabulous people makes me think “yes, this is where I want to be.”’

As part of her role, Trudi also has the opportunity to directly liaise with the Resthaven community, by visiting sites and conducting customer quality surveys — something that she greatly cherishes.

‘I love to sit and chat with residents and hear about their experiences. Learning from them while sharing a smile and having a laugh is really rewarding.’

‘I am so fortunate to have constant connections with people across the Resthaven community, allowing me the opportunity to provide support and form positive working relationships, which is key to a happy and productive work life.’

Now, after three years in the role, Trudi maintains that there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.

‘It was a truly wonderful feeling for me to hear the words “Welcome to Resthaven”, and now I have such pleasure repeating these words to those who come through our doors.’

‘No matter your employment experience, there is something for everyone at Resthaven. Take it from me, you won’t turn back!’
