Research & Development

Resthaven is commited to providing outstanding care and support to older people and their carers who are living at home in their community, and in our independent living units and residential facilities.

We recognise the need to have good knowledge and understanding of the communities we serve.

  • Who are the people living in our communities of interest?
  • What are their strengths, abilities and needs?
  • How does evidence-based best practice inform our ongoing service development?
  • What partnerships and relationships do we already have or need to develop?
  • What are the gaps in knowledge that require additional research?

To inform our service planning and development, Resthaven consults with stakeholders including:

  • our clients, residents, and their carers and families
  • the broader community
  • other service providers
  • funding bodies, including the government
  • Registered Training Organisations
  • our staff, and
  • our Board

We engage with our stakeholders through structured and informal ways:

  • Feedback and input from our residents, clients and their families through focus groups, participation in accreditation processes, surveys, and responding to ideas submitted through our comments and complaints system

  • Community Advisory Groups established within each of our regions for potential consumers and community members to provide input into and advise our service development

  • Participation by Managers and Coordinators in networking forums, regional collaborative committees, and service partnerships with other service providers

  • Participating in regional strategic planning forums to understand the needs and aspirations of older people and their communities.

Resthaven is involved in a number of research projects and partnerships that inform our service development and enables us to provide guidance to the aged care sector and government on policy and service planning. These are focused on topics such as:

Each year, Resthaven funds research projects on issues of interest. Over the past few years, this has included research on:

  • The impact of Resthaven systems on new employees from CALD backgrounds
  • Supporting carers in their role
  • Supporting customers of residential respite
  • Review of pain identification tools
  • Quality, people, culture and risk
  • Staff development
  • Trial education program for resident incident and injury reporting.
