• Lane Cottage at Resthaven Community Respite Services brings positive change

‘Thank you for everything’ says Fred

Fred at Lane Cottage Resthaven Community Respite ServicesAs Mr Fred Mogel blew out the candles on his 84th birthday cake, he reflected on the positive changes to his life since attending the Lane Cottage Program through Resthaven Community Respite Services.

‘I’m very, very lucky that I got here, as a year ago, I had my doubts,’ he says.

‘I am thankful to all the people around me, including all the people here [at Resthaven Lane Cottages] – I couldn’t have met nicer people.’

Resthaven Community Respite Services Coordinator, Gillian Schulze, explains, ‘A year ago, Mr Mogel had a medical episode which altered his ability to successfully process information, make decisions and maintain connections with others.’

‘He was depressed, and his wife was needing a break from her caring role.’

‘Through attending our Lane Cottage Day Respite Program once a week, Mr Mogel has had the opportunity to socialise with others, and participate in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy activities.’

‘This has enabled him to articulate his thoughts, and has given him a newfound sense of worth and wellbeing.’

Mr Mogel celebrated his birthday at Lane Cottage. As he cut his chocolate cake, he said, ‘I’ve been here almost every week, and I really look forward to coming.’

He paid particular tribute to Home Support Worker, Libby, saying with a laugh, ‘My good “chauffeur,” Libby – she never lets me down!’

‘She’s there every day, and she gets me home safely, and I’m thankful for that.’

‘All in all, long story short, I love you all and thank you very much for everything.’

Thank YOU for your beautiful words, Mr Mogul.
