ACSA Employee of the Year Award Win

‘I am thrilled that Peter Jenkin, Resthaven’s Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, won the “Employee” award in this year’s Aged and Community Services (ACS) SA and NT Awards for Excellence,’ says Tina Cooper, Executive Manager, Residential Services.

Peter Jenkin with Pat Sparrow ACSA National CEOThe awards were announced at a gala dinner at the National Wine Centre on Friday 23 June 2017.

‘I am very proud of Peter, who was a finalist last year. The “Employee” award recognises the dedication and contribution of an individual employee in the delivery of services to older people, or those with a disability.’

‘With his professionalism, skill, and genuine compassion and care shown for residents in their final stages of life, Peter is deserving of the recognition he has received.’

‘Peter has been employed with Resthaven since 2011. With nearly 20 years’ experience in palliative care, Peter was the first Nurse Practitioner in Australia with a specialist palliative care scope of practice to be employed by an aged care provider. We are very proud of that, too.’

‘He is responsible for providing specialist palliative care nursing services to Resthaven clients, in both residential and community services, who are approaching the end stage of one or more progressive illness states, and require assessment and management of complex physical symptoms and psychosocial support needs.’

‘Peter has developed clinical, educational and management resources designed to guide and support staff in delivery of evidence-based, person-centred and sustainable palliative care for Resthaven residents.’

‘Peter is an outstanding contributor to the standard and delivery of palliative care services provided to residents and clients at Resthaven, and to the broader community. His clinical expertise and leadership has been instrumental and influential in improving the lives of countless older people and their families, as they approach the end of their lives.’
