HESTA awards finalist team

Resthaven was proud to be a finalist in the Team Innovation Award category in the national 2017 HESTA Aged Care Awards.

Resthaven staff were delighted to attend the 2017 HESTA Aged Care Awards ceremony on Thursday night.

Richard Hearn, Resthaven Chief Executive Officer, says, ‘Even though we didn’t win, the fact that we were a finalist in these aged care-focused awards was an achievement in itself’.

‘Resthaven was a finalist for an innovative team approach to assisting a client and their carer in the Rural City of Murray Bridge.’

‘Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills & Fleurieu Community Services worked together with Resthaven Murray Bridge residential services and clinical staff from Resthaven’s Head Office, to do what was needed to support a couple to be able to remain living at home.’

‘Resthaven responded to the older person’s goal to remain living at home in their community, with their spouse, despite requiring regular peritoneal dialysis.’

‘The client’s 80 year old husband has managed his wife’s care for a number of years, but was finding it increasingly difficult to continue. He needed a break.’

‘Our Community Services team liaised with the Residential Services team to offer him respite from his caring role, as his wife spent some time in residential respite.’

‘To enable this, Resthaven provided specialist training for the team so that they could offer peritoneal dialysis in the residential respite environment. This gave the carer a much needed break.’

‘We continue to support him in the home environment, so that when his wife returns home after a stay in residential respite, he is able to continue to do the dialysis at night.’

‘The team worked together to achieve this fantastic outcome for the couple.’
